Option 2: Do-It-Yourself
For the handyman homeowner wanting to save a little on installation costs this is the option for you. Please be aware that the installation of overhead ceiling racks is not always a simple process!!! Determine the space available by measuring your garage ceiling area. Measuring the drop-down space available is important also when ordering. Know what you need before you make your purchase and buy only what you need. If you are not sure if you have enough space over the garage door, measure the distance from the ceiling to the highest point on the door runner, and subtract 6 inches.
You will want to clear your garage floor space directly below the installation area. Look through the installation instructions, layout the parts and you're set to go! Read through the installation instructions first and make sure you have the tools required to finish the job. Last but certainly not least, ENJOY THE PROJECT! You are reclaiming the floor space that is rightfully yours and you will be amazed with the results. If you enjoyed working with Garage Gear Store and want to recommend us to a friend or neighbor, we would greatly appreciate it.

Our Experience Installing Garage Gear Store's Garage Storage Racks
I am Garage Gear Store's website designer. I decided that my garage had finally grown cluttered enough to install some garage storage racks. I picked up the phone and called Garage Door Specialist, Jimmy Davis to get a price on the racks. He gave me the "friend" discount and I had one of my construction company employee's pick up the racks. We paid for them with BBE barter money. Jimmy's company is an ITEX barter member as well as BBE. So we were ready to install. Web Your Name® designed this website and provided search engine optimization services to Garage Door Specialist on barter. Web Your Name® is both a BBE and ITEX member as well. The photographs on this page were taken by us as well. As you can see in these photographs, Garage Gear Store storage racks makes storage simple, and easy! Chris (my employee) arrived at my house at lunch time with the materials. It was a bunch of bulky pieces and a bag nuts and bolts. Seemed like it would be simple. I looked at Chris and then realized that I was completely ignorant and we did not have a ladder tall enough to install the racks. The ceiling of my garage was about 12 feet off the ground, and the highest ladder I had was 8 feet tall, making the situation completely dangerous without a taller ladder. I also realized I was going to need TWO ladders because of the size of the racks we were installing. I called my buddy Jimmy back up and begged him to give me the "friend" discount on renting a ladder from him. He is not in the tool rental business, but kindly let me borrow it for a day.
The next day Chris picked up the ladder and got to my house. We needed a high powered drill, a mallet, some wrenches, a sawz all, and the ladder to install everything. Everything went smoothly. We installed the first garage storage rack in about 45 minutes. The second rack took a bit longer because the studs in the ceiling were not aligned properly and it took some construction expertise to get the second one installed into the location we wanted. I took photographs of the garage floor before and after the racks were installed, and as you can see, the racks did wonders for the amount of available space in our garage. Each rack now holds the maximum load of about 600 pounds. Since we own a fence company, we needed a place to store all of the heavy gate hardware that we stock piled because of the price we got on it.
All in all, it probably would have been worth paying the extra barter money to have had Jimmy's company install the storage racks. The amount of time we spent driving to pick up the racks, pick up the ladder, install the racks, and return the ladder, killed any potential benefit of installing the storage racks ourselves. Take it from the person who designed this website, it's not worth saving a few dollars for the amount of time that was consumed by installing it ourselves.
